The overall title has been awarded to Annika Langvad and Jan Skarnitzl. Same procedure as seven days ago in mens competition. Jaroslav Kulhavy (Rubena Birell Specialized) didn’t want to wait what all the other guys are doing. After the start loop he took the lead, went away and was seen never more by the rest of the bunch.  Dynamic and safe he rode through the single tracks in the area of archeological site of Amathous.

Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2010: Afxentia#3 cross country Triple for Kulhavy – Langvad takes it PDF Print E-mail
Second round of Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2010 goes to Jaroslav Kulhavy (Cze) and Annika Langvad (Den). Both were taking last stage of Afxentia stage race and with that secured the overall win. Emil Lindgren (Swe) in Sundays cross country race was the runner-up ahead of Periklis Ilias (Gre). Janka Stevkova (Svk) played the same role in womens competition while Alexandra Engen (Swe) took the third spot on the podium. Again the riders had to deal with bad weather conditions in Macheras Mountains with rain and cold temperatures. It was Jaroslav Kulhavy (Rubena Birell Specialized) who already in the first of five laps set himself in front. “I don’t like to have the contact with the other riders in these difficult parts”, the Czech explained his early escape.Emil Lindgren (Rabobank-Giant) in this early part of the race could not follow. So he built up the chasing group together with Periklis Ilias (Gre/ISD) and also Sunshine Cup leader Jan Skarnitzl  (Dimp-Giant) for a while. The Voroklini winner later had problems with a chain suck and was falling back while behind him Roel Paulissen (Bel/Cannondale) was trying to chase.Kulhavy couldn’t extend his lead over 40 seconds.

Cyprus Sunshine Cup 2010: Afxentia#2 point to point Kulhavy too strong for everyone Langvad celebrates wonderful day PDF Print E-mail
On second stage of Afxentia stage race trough Macheras Mountains on Cyprus again Jaroslav Kulhavy (Cze) was the top rider. He beats Emil Lindgren (Swe) and Jan Skarnitzl (Cze) in 41 kilometer point to point race and keeps his overall lead. In womens competition Annika Langvad (Den) after 32 kilometer takes todays win ahead of Elisabeth Brandau (Ger) and Alexandra Engen (Swe). Langvad is now leading the races overall. For the first half of the race it was a hard battle out there in the Macheras Mountains. Nicola Rohrbach (later flatted) and the German Karl Platt (Bulls) made the pace bringing more and more riders into difficulties. But when Jaroslav Kulhavy (Rubena Birell Specialized) took the scepter, things were really clearing up.  Emil Lindgren (Swe/ Rabobank-Giant) was trying hard to follow the Czech but at this day there was no chance to do so.  Kulhavy even was not endangered by the rain starting half an hour before he finished.“In the uphill he was too strong for me”, Lindgren was saying after crossing the finish line 43 seconds behind Kulhavy. In the chase the winner of Cyprus Sunshine Cup 1, Jan Skarnitzl (Dimp-Giant) could not hold the pace of Lindgren. As third he reached the finish line 1:15 minutes later than Lindgren. So the ranking was the same as the day before at the time trial and so is the overall ranking.Marathon world champion Roel Paulissen (Bel/Cannondale) for the first half of the race was within the leading group but then suffered of some back problems.

Second stage of Cyprus Sunshine Cup saw another faces on the top spot. At Afxentia stage race opener in Macheras Forest Jaroslav Kulhavy (Cze) and Elisabeth Brandau (Ger) were taking the 7,4 kilometer time trial . Kulhavy was ahead of Emil Lindgren (Swe) and Jan Skarnitzl (Cze) while Brandau on rainy day was faster than Ekaterina Anoshina (Rus) and Janka Stevkova (Svk). thumb_100226_CYP_Afxentia_stage1_KulhavyUnfortunately the weather conditions in Macheras Mountains went into  cold and rainy. So most of the riders after the time trial were talking about the difficulties they had with the temperature of about eight degrees and the ground which was rideable but very slow. Some favourites like Roel Paulissen (Bel/ Cannondale), Thomas Litscher (Swi/MiG) or Fabian Giger (Swi/Rabobank-Giant) were not able to do as good as they were expected.“I was without power. I couldn’t perform, I couldn’t feel anything in the legs”, Paulissen explained. Litscher broke his derailleur. The one who had not really a problem was Jaroslav Kulhavy.
